Camp Directors and Program Directors work many hours to prepare for the summer camp season.  Unfortunately, there are often very few resource materials readily available. An internet search reveals that there are not many publications or ebooks available that outline summer camp activities, camp ideas and themes, and curriculum.  Also there is a lack of good camp staff training materials.

I remember so many occasions when I’d be at a camp conference, and professionals from other camps would ask me, “What are you using for your camp curriculum?” or “How can I add a day camp to our summer programs?” or Where are you getting your ideas for camp themes?”  What I discovered is that most camp leaders develop most of it themselves.  Also a lot of knowledge is passed on by word of mouth.

A day camp director told me that she spent months writing curriculum for the following summer.  I can’t imagine how much that cost her camp in salary and benefits.  It would have been so much easier if she could have drawn on ready-made curriculum and then could have concentrated more of that time on staff recruiting, camper recruiting, and fundraising.

This summer camp related website will become a source of many camp resource materials, as well as valuable articles that will help you plan your summer camp activities, camp themes, staff training, and more.  Check back often!
